Know Jitendra

It was however when Azharuddin met Pt. Keshav Ginde, a follower of late Pt. Pannalal Ghosh School or gharana of flute, that Azharuddin’s flute really took wings. Azhar was al of 8 years at that time. Pt. Keshav Ginde is not just a great flautist but is an innovator par excellence in that he created “Keshav Venu” which is a unique bamboo flute having a range of 3 octaves as against only 2 octaves of traditional flute; a flute which took flute playing to a next level of sophistication compared to the traditional flute.

Pt. Keshav Ginde’s innovative spirit rubbed on young Azharuddin and he helped his teacher in his musical innovation later on. After a few years, Azharuddin himself created flutes that have made their way first into Limca book of records and then into the Guiness Book of Records. These flutes are
  • Anahat Venu, length 12 feet, material PVC (Guiness & Limca book of world records - India’s Longest flute)
  • Venu Samradni, length 12 feet, material PVC (Guiness book of records - World’s longest flute)
  • Chaitanya Venu, length 1 inch (Guiness book of records - World’s shortest flute)
Even as his musical training under Pt. Keshav Ginde continued, Azharuddin Shaikh created several more flutes -
  • Shri Govind Murali -  A flute with sounds in the lower octave (kharja)
  • Kokil Venu -   A flute capable of producing the whistle of a cuckoo (kokil), sound of a peacock and chirpings of many other birds.
  • Panchajanya - A flute that can produce the sound having more base than the natural conch shell
  • Waman Venu - A flute especially created for young children with their small fingers
  • Venu Samradni -The flute which can be played in 3 ¾ octaves and has silver keys. This flute has entered the Guiness book of world records and is in effect an improvisation of the Keshav Venu
Azharuddin has had many moments to be cherished in his young life so far. One of them was when Pt. Ravi Shankar, the iconic sitar maestro who mesmerized and was respected by the entire world with his mastery over sitar, hugged him while presenting him the trophy in the Limca records function in the presence of Asha Bhosale, the great singing icon of the Indian films. Another was when Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, who is himself a great innovator actually asked Azaharuddin his visiting card. Yet another moment that would live forever in his heart came Azharuddin’s way when the great flautist of this age, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya called him and asked to see his longest flute and after seeing and hearing it, personally felicitated him
